SEDISA Trust Bursary Overview

The SEDISA Trust Bursary is a wonderful opportunity created to help young Black South African women who want to study further but do not have the money. The SEDISA Trust (also known as the Sedisa Black Women Education Trust) was started around 2010/2012 by the KAEFER Group. Since it began, the Trust has already helped more than 30 students and aims to support at least 40 new students every year. The bursary is not a loan – you do not have to pay it back. It removes the biggest worry (money) so you can focus on passing your studies and graduating. The Trust started mainly with STEM subjects but now supports any field because they believe every young Black woman with potential deserves a chance.

If you are a hard-working Black South African woman who has finished Matric, you are between 16 and 35, and your family cannot afford tertiary fees, this bursary can change your life. Many past recipients have gone on to finish their diplomas, degrees, honours or even masters and are now working and giving back to their communities. The SEDISA Trust wants to level the playing field and create more Black women leaders in every sector of the economy.

Who the SEDISA Trust Bursary is For

This bursary is specially for Black South African women (as defined by BBBEE codes) who face financial barriers. It targets young women aged 16 to 35 from marginalised or disadvantaged backgrounds. You must be a South African citizen and have already completed Matric. The Trust looks for students who have shown academic potential but cannot afford to study without help.

It is open to students who are either already studying or have been accepted to study at any recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (universities, universities of technology or TVET colleges).
