Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary Overview

The Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary is a fantastic opportunity for talented South African students who want to study scarce skills at university. Schauenburg Systems (Pty) Ltd created the Trust to help young Black South Africans get the qualifications they need for good jobs in engineering and business.

This bursary supports students in their second, third and fourth years of study. It focuses on fields that South Africa needs more skilled workers in, like Electrical Engineering and Business Management. Who the Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary is For

This bursary is for Black South African citizens (as defined by B-BBEE legislation). Preference goes to:

Black women
Black students under 35 years old
Black students living with disabilities

You must be studying full-time and already in your first, second or third year at university so you can receive funding for your second, third or fourth year in 2026. The bursary is only for students at these Gauteng universities:

University of Pretoria (UP)
University of Johannesburg (UJ)
North-West University (Vanderbijlpark campus)
University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)

You must be serious about your studies and willing to do three weeks of vacation work or job shadowing at Schauenburg Systems during your mid-year holidays. This gives you real work experience while you study.

Fields of Study Covered

The Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary covers these qualifications only:

Electrical Engineering (BEng or BSc)
Business Management (BCom)
Business Administration (BCom)

No funding is given for studies at Universities of Technology or colleges. The bursary is strictly for the universities listed above. These fields were chosen because they are scarce skills that South African companies need.

What the Schauenburg Education Trust Bursary Covers

The bursary can pay some or all of the following (decided by the Trustees):

100% of university tuition fees, registration fees and exam fees (paid straight to the university)
Accommodation (amount equal to the average single-room hostel rate at your university)
Textbooks and course materials
Living allowance

Successful students get full details in their offer letter. The support helps remove financial stress so you can focus on passing your modules.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify you must:

Be a South African citizen with a valid ID
Have completed Matric
Be studying full-time towards one of the approved degrees
Be entering your 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study in 2026
Study at one of the four approved Gauteng universities
Have passed all your university courses so far and show good academic progress
NOT be receiving any other bursary for 2026
Be willing to attend interviews and psychometric tests
Be willing to do 3 weeks of vacation work at Schauenburg Systems

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants are contacted for:

An interview with the Trustees and Bursary Administrators
Psychometric testing

Successful students sign a bursary contract. If you do not hear back within 4 weeks after the closing date, your application was unsuccessful. The Trustees have the final say and can withdraw the bursary if academic results or conduct are not satisfactory.
